A heavily advertised anti-immigrant rally hosted by Jake Lang, who was jailed for violently attacking the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 before being pardoned by Donald Trump, attracted less than a dozen supporters. But hundreds of counter protestors gathered outside of City Hall, the starting location of the march. Lang and his small posse were supposed march to Cedar Riverside, home to some of Minneapolis's Somali community. Instead, hundreds of locals, besieged by what many view as an invasion by federal officers operating under the guise of immigration enforcement, ran them out before they made it a single block. Lang was hit by silly string, snow and water balloons, and got knocked around by the crowd as he fled. Things could have been much worse for the avowed white supremacist if Raffat Haj, a Muslim man, had not shielded Lang, who planned to burn a Quran during the march, from the crowd.
